About

What Is Glory Focus?

Glory Focus is my online ministry home. I think of it as an extension of my pastoral work, but it can also be thought of as internet missions work. Essentially, Glory Focus is a blog, which I attempt to update semi-regularly, providing Christians with brief (sometimes not so much) resources to help them in their walk with the Lord. I write about biblical topics and passages, theological issues, apologetics, practical issues of the Christian life, and current events. Plus, I try to provide links to great books and articles. Glory Focus also features my weekly sermons and the books I’ve written or edited.

Why Call It Glory Focus?

The name is special to me because I have personally found out the joy and benefit of a life focused on the glory of God. Honestly, I’ve only gotten a small taste of it, but enough to know that true joy, authentic holiness, sanity, and real worship only come when our minds and hearts are focused on the glory of Almighty God.

2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Jonathan Edwards, John Piper, and many others have guided me in my journey to find a glory focus. But the Word of God is the richest of all resources, demonstrating with unfailing wonder the splendor and majesty of King Jesus Christ. So at Glory Focus I spend a lot of time writing about the Bible or doing my best to point people towards it.

This ministry has one main goal, namely, to help people focus their full attention on the glory of God. This happens to the highest degree when the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ are carefully examined and thoughtfully considered, as we see in this glorious worship service:

Revelation 5:11-12 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”

Even when I write on current events, I do so asking how the particular event relates to the glory of God. I try to ask and answer, “How does this event magnify his glory, or illustrate his glory, or teach lessons about his glory, or directly give him glory?”

Brief Bio

Some might be interested in knowing a little about me. If not, skip it – It isn’t my glory I want anyone to focus on! But for the sake of hospitality, I’ll share a bit.

The glorious King allows me to be married to Page, who is one of the funniest folks around. We laugh a lot. We have to… because we also have five children (including that one pictured with me above)!

My day “job” is serving the congregation of Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Church as pastor. Our family lives in the community where the church is located, and we have a special bond in Christ with the congregation. When we are not all laughing at (I mean, with) each other, we are digging deep into the truths of the Word, and doing our best to serve the glorious King by the power of His Spirit.

I love writing and especially writing as a ministry. In addition to the Glory Focus site, I have authored a few books via the self-publishing channel. Why self-publishing? Well, now that’s a good question that I’ll need to answer some time.

For fun, I play with my kids, watch various TV series with my wife (House MD, Lost, Once Upon a Time, Downton Abbey, and Murdoch Mysteries are the most recent), and record music on a ridiculously amateur level. I’ve also been known to cheer for various sports teams, the Atlanta Braves being at the top of the list.
